GOSHEN, Ind. — Over the past several weeks, the Elkhart County community has responded with overwhelming generosity. Together, donors have helped raise more than $130,000 to support The Window’s future. Churches, businesses, foundations, volunteers, neighbors, and donors have reminded the organization just how deeply this mission matters.
When The Window announced its temporary stabilization period, the goal was to reopen by late July. As leadership continued evaluating the organization’s financial needs, they made the difficult but responsible decision to extend that timeline. At this time, The Window has paused, assessed its situation, and developed a plan to sustainably secure the $300,000 needed to reopen.
“We have been overwhelmed by the support we have received. We are grateful and hopeful about the future of the organization as it serves Goshen and surrounding communities,” said Erica Bailey, chair of the board. “After getting our hands around the situation facing the organization, we have a plan to sustain its success and are taking a bit more time as we raise funds before fully reopening.”
While The Window has made tremendous progress, leadership now knows that reopening sustainably requires approximately $300,000 in operating support. Rather than reopening too soon and risking another service disruption, the organization believes it has a responsibility to continue strengthening its financial foundation so it can serve the community with confidence and stability.
“We are grateful for everyone who has come alongside us during this season,” said Josh Varab, Interim Executive Director. “This decision was not made lightly and reflects our commitment to the long-term mission of caring for our neighbors. Every dollar donated helps us build a stronger, more sustainable future for The Window and ensures we can continue providing Food for Today and Hope for Tomorrow for the more than 1,500 families we serve each month! With support from the Community Foundation of Elkhart County and many partnering agencies, The Window has continued working behind the scenes throughout this season to strengthen operations, improve financial sustainability, build new partnerships, and prepare its programs for long-term success. The organization is also thankful to the many local groups that have stepped in to help care for neighbors while it rebuilds.

The following staff and programs continue to serve the community at The Window:
- Food Pantry: Thursdays, 9 to 10:30 a.m. and 3 to 5 p.m.
- Meals on Wheels: daily
- Mail Services: daily
- Partner organizations continue to help fill the gap:
- Salvation Army of Goshen, through 7/31— Food pantry support and hosting additional food distributions. Monday, Tuesday and Friday, 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m.
- First Light Mission — Assisting with clothing and baby items.
- Indiana 211 — Connecting neighbors with Elkhart County resources.
